Sexual Attire
This fetish relates to those that gain sexual enjoyment by wearing or having their partner wear a specific type of attire such as rubber, latex, leather, or a specific type of sports gear. For some, the smell of rubber, latex, leather, and/or gear may also be a turn on. The fetish can range from wearing the more conventional types of items such as a sexy underwear, jock straps, or a cock ring to something more unusual like a gas mask.
Rubber or latex fetishism, is the fetishistic attraction to people wearing latex clothing or, in certain cases, to the garments themselves. PVC fetishism is closely related to rubber fetishism, with the former referring to shiny clothes made of the synthetic plastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and the latter referring to clothes made of rubber, which is generally thicker, less shiny, and more matte than latex. PVC is sometimes confused with the similarly shiny patent leather, which is also a fetish material. Latex or rubber fetishists sometimes refer to themselves as “rubberists”. Gay rubberists tend to call themselves “rubbermen”.
The terms “PVC”, “vinyl” and “PU” tend to be used interchangeably by retailers for clothing made from shiny plastic-coated fabrics. These fabrics usually consist of a backing woven from polyester fibers with a surface coating of shiny plastic. The plastic layer itself is typically a blend of PVC and polyurethane (PU), with 100% PVC producing a stiff fabric with a glossy shine and 100% PU producing a stretchy fabric with a silky shine.
Leather subculture denotes practices and styles of dress organized around sexual activities that involve leather garments, such as leather jackets, vests, boots, chaps, harnesses, or other items. Wearing leather garments is one way that participants in this culture self-consciously distinguish themselves from mainstream sexual cultures. Leather culture is most visible in gay communities and most often associated with gay men (enthusiasts are nicknamed “leathermen”), but it is also reflected in various ways in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and straight worlds. Many people associate leather culture with BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, Sado/Masochism, also called “SM” or “S&M”) practices and its many subcultures. But for others, wearing black leather clothing is an erotic fashion that expresses heightened masculinity or the appropriation of sexual power; love of motorcycles, motorcycle clubs and independence; and/or engagement in sexual kink or leather fetishism.
Sports Gear is a fetish commonly based upon high school sports memories of an individual like the Football Quarterback or the entire wrestling, soccer, track or basketball teams, Today it also includes Skate boarders, swimmers, life guards etc. The fetishists dress up to explore their fantasies in the locker room, on the playing field, or in the gymnasium. This fetish not only includes the attire for focus sport, but the “support” positions like the cheer leaders, drill team or even the marching band. For some it takes them back to high school day for others it goes hand and foot with their fixation on exercise and fitness.
